Ever since I saw “How It’s Made” on TV several weeks ago featuring the the building of the Braun Pulsonic, I’ve wanted one. But, like many, the price was daunting. For a very long time I have preferred my electric (Norelco) over a blade because the blade just takes too darn long. I only had to make one concession: the blade shaves closer. Then, just days ago, I “bit the bullet” so to speak, and ordered the Braun. The sheer weight of favorable reviews outweighed the price for me.To make a long story somewhat shorter, the Braun is like no other shaver on earth. It does, indeed, rival a blade shave, and it does it eons more quickly and comfortably. On top of that, it’s built like a fine watch, and has enough bells and whistles to keep even the most jaded user happy. It is only a small tad “noisier” than my Norelco, but the comparison ends there. The Braun makes the Norelco hang it’s shaver head in shame. I find myself wanting to shave more often, but the efficiency of the Braun would mean I would be shaving mostly-bare skin.
If you want the razor of all razors, forget cost and get this one. There’s no way in the world that you will end up sorry to did it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Best Electric Shave I’ve Ever Had, March 23, 2008
By Cav Trooper – See all my reviews
I read some of the other reviews and was a little skeptical, but I’m foolish, so I bought the $250 shaver anyway. Turns out it is great. I’ve had it for two months and I’ve largely stopped razor shaving since I got this thing. That’s not to say it’s the same as razor shaving, but it’s very, very, close. It is, hands down, the best electric shave I’ve ever gotten. After shaving it feels like a razor shave, but the 5 o’clock shadow seems to come sooner than with the razor. I can’t tell if the pulsing or all the other super-gadgetry is doing the trick, but it is great. The cleaning system is nice too. It is kinda loud, but you don’t have to run it at 5 in the morning and wake up your wife. It is comforting to see the ridiculous amount of shaved hair and what not in the cleaner cartridge when you swap it out. All in all, I am very happy with it; it gives a great shave and the cleaning system seems to keep it very clean (and lemon-fresh too!). If you’re happy with your shaver or don’t have to shave every day (I’m in the military, so I have to), stick with what you have or the razor. If you’re looking for a new one and need something that gives a close shave and you don’t have to spend an hour disassembling and cleaning it once a week, get this thing. Caveat: all I can say about reliability is that I’ve had this thing for two months and it hasn’t given me any trouble at all.
5.0 out of 5 stars Best shaver I’ve ever used, February 29, 2008

I’ve been shaving with electric razors for over 20 years, and I’ve always had problems with razor-burn around my jaw and neckline despite trying several popular preshave products and razors. However, about a month ago, I’ve finally decided to spring for a Braun Pulsonic 9595, and I’m happy to report I no longer have any problems with razor-burn. This is a wonderfully close-shaving electric razor–it even has a special central strip in its head that will cut through a thick, multi-day shadow with no painful pulling or pinching. None of the other dozen or so electric razors I have tried over the years have ever managed to do this! The self-cleaning feature is also very useful and impeccably cleans the inside of the razor foil; the cleaning solution tanks are reasonably-priced if purchased as a three-pack, and my first tank is still mostly full after a month of use with daily cleanings. The razor also comes with a well-made plastic carrying case for travelling purposes, and this is the best-packaged razor I have ever seen. My only critique is the somewhat awkward location of the flip-up sideburn trimmer–if you’re not careful, the active razor foil might give you an unintentional haircut while you’re trimming your sideburns. If you have thick & rapidly-growing facial hair, problems with razor-burn, or desire a close shave, I believe you’d greatly benefit from this high-quality razor.

This is a matchless razor – absolutely remarkable.
Like many men, and particularly black men, I get ingrown hairs, razor bumps and all kinds of irritation. I’ve tried everything to fight what seemed to be a losing battle – from the gillette fusion & mach 3, to electric shavers and even straight razors. So after reading the glowing reviews on this site, I decided to take the plunge and try this Braun Pulsonic. I had experimented with a Norelco a few years back but ditched it after a couple of months. This Braun thing, however, is in a league of its own. It’s by far the smoothest, quickest, most hassle-free razor I’ve ever used.
Obviously, it’s not going to give the kind of perfectly smooth shave that you’d expect from a gillette or straight razor – but it does come pretty close. If you’re looking for something that’s going to keep razor bumps in check, then this is a definite winner.
I’m thoroughly impressed by this superb razor. I realize it’s quite expensive (i’m a student) but if you can afford it, give it a try. I doubt you’ll regret it.
And these are just a few selections from the 760+ reviews that have been left about the shaver. So as not to be remiss, not everyone has been satisfied with this, but this is a very small percentage. Overall the product has been rated 4.5 out of 5 stars and that is pretty solid support for the quality of the shaver in my book. At the time of writing, the breakdown of rating is:
5 star: (502)
4 star: (120)
3 star: (54)
2 star: (35)
1 star: (56)
So about 12% didn’t like the shaver, 7% found it average, 16% found it good, and the other 75% found it fantastic.
Anyway, for fun and fairness let us also see the comment that most people voted as being the most helpful critical review:

I read lots of great reviews for this razor and ordered it with high expectations. I’ve been using it for about three weeks now and I have to say that I’m not nearly as impressed as everyone else seems to be. Maybe I got a bad unit or something. It feels nice in the hand and it seems quite powerful and the pop-up trimmer works great. But I’m just not getting a very close shave at all with it. I have to go over all parts of my face and neck two or three times, stretching the skin in every way possible, and even then I still find areas that could have been closer.
I really wanted to like this razor, especially because it’s so expensive. I’ve had great Braun razors before, but this isn’t one of them. I’m sorry that I can’t agree with everyone else on this one.
BTW, I’m sure that part of the reason this razor is so expensive is because Braun really overdid the packaging. You’d think the packaging was for some precious family heirloom or valuable jewels, not an electric razor.
As of course with everything, your mileage may vary, but with 75% satisfaction rate on amazon.com an overwhelming majority of people have found this to be a truly super shaver. Feel free to read more reviews on Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk
So, if all of the above is not convincing enough for you that this is a fantastic high quality, high satisfaction shaver, then perhaps this shaver really is not for you. If it is a matter of price, you could opt for the 790cc’s little brother, the 760cc, the main differences being there is no fast clean option in the cleaning unit – although this is perhaps not that big of a deal to you. The other major difference is rather than having an LCD screen where text will inform you about the status of the shaver, the 760CC only has LED lights to inform you. Again perhaps more of a nice feature than a must. Only you can decide whether these things add enough value for you. The only other difference is in the cosmetics, whereas the 790cc is silver and dark blue, the 760cc is silver and gray. At the time of writing, the price of the 760cc $204.99. Personally, for a measly $25 difference on a $200+ product, I’d have to say it is better to get the 790cc or getting a cheaper shaver. (For UK visitors: the 760cc is not sold in the UK, probably because the silly price difference does not justify it.)
